POINT OF INTEREST

Estrella de Puebla

2520 Osa Mayor, Reserva Territorial Atlixcáyotl, Puebla, Puebla, 72190

The 263-foot-tall (80-meter-tall) Estrella de Puebla—or “Star of Puebla”—is the largest of its kind in the world, with the Guinness World Record to prove it. It has 50 standard gondolas, each with room for up to eight passengers, as well as four plush luxury gondolas for an extra-special experience; however, each one offers magnificent panoramic views of Puebla.

The Basics

The Estrella de Puebla is the dramatic centerpiece of the Parque Lineal complex, which includes the Art Garden (Jardín de Arte), the Metropolitan Ecopark (Eco Parque Metropolitano), and the Atoyac River Walk (Paseo del Río Atoyac). Most visitors reach and ride the observation wheel independently either before or after walking the 2.8 mile (4.5 kilometer) Parque Lineal path. You can’t prebook, but queues tend to move quickly on the day, with each rotation taking just 20 minutes.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Star of Puebla makes roughly three rotations per hour, so expect your ride to last around 20 minutes.

  • There's a small fee to ride the observation wheel; you can’t reserve time slots in advance but queues move fast.

  • There are four luxury gondolas on the wheel, which have leather seats and glass floors; the fee is considerably higher for these gondolas.

  • The Parque Lineal has an elevated footpath, running track, restrooms, playgrounds, lakes, and fields.

  • The Estrella de Puebla might not be easily accessible for wheelchair users.

How to Get There

The Estrella de Puebla is located in the Parque Lineal in downtown Puebla, a 20-minute drive from the historic center. Most easily accessed by private vehicle, there’s parking nearby. It’s situated right outside a shopping complex with department stores, a cinema, and eateries, as well as close to other key attractions.

When to Get There

The Estrella de Puebla is open year-round. Monday through Friday, you can typically ride the observation wheel between 3:30pm and 10pm; Saturday and Sunday enjoy extended hours of 11am to 10pm. Weekends and national holidays tend to be busiest, so visit midweek for a quieter experience. One of the best times to visit is right around sunset.

What to Do Nearby

Just a 5 to 10-minute drive away from the Estrella de Puebla is the International Baroque Museum (Museo Internacional del Barroco), a Puebla City highlight and landmark. Designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito and inaugurated in 2016, the sinuous-looking International Baroque Museum is dedicated to preserving, researching, and sharing all things baroque. With around half a dozen permanent, interactive exhibits, its a must for fans of art and architecture in Puebla.
