The basics

The museum hosts over 300 interactive displays and activities, based on themes such as neuroscience, physics, and communication. There’s also a 3D projection hall, a planetarium, and 22 animatronic dinosaurs. Another highlight is the indoor aquarium center, the largest freshwater aquarium in Latin America, where you can learn more about the Amazon region, spot over 400 different species of fish, and see the world's most poisonous frog.

Things to know before you go

• You need to buy an admission ticket to enter the museum; a combo ticket grants you access to both the planetarium and the exhibitions. Kids under three enter for free.

• There’s a gift shop selling a range of souvenirs, such as T-shirts, water bottles, stationery, and more.

• The museum is accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.

How to get there

The museum is a 2-minute walk from the Universidad metro stop, on the blue A line that travels toward Niquia. You can also visit the museum as part of a sightseeing tour of Medellin.

When to get there

Explora Park (Parque Explora) is open from Tuesday through Sunday. On weekdays it’s open from early morning to early evening, and it opens and closes an hour later on the weekends and on public holidays.

Exploring Medellin with kids

The City of Eternal Spring boasts plenty of family-friendly sights, making Medellin a great destination if you’ve got the kids in tow. Hacienda Napoles Theme Park features rides, attractions, and a water park suited to all ages, set among thousands of acres of greenery. There’s also Parque Piedras Blancas, an ecological park with hiking paths and row boats, plus the Museo del Agua (Water Museum), where interactive exhibits teach kids about water’s importance to the planet.
