POINT OF INTEREST

Fordham University

New York City, NY, 10458

The satellite campus of this Jesuit University—the main campus is in the Fordham Manor neighborhood of the Bronx—lies steps from Central Park across the street from Lincoln Center. Spanning two New York City blocks, it has a public plaza where you can take a break from the Big Apple.

The basics

While the campus holds some interest for potential students, it’s best thought of as a minor destination seen in passing while headed elsewhere nearby—namely, Lincoln Center, Central Park, and Broadway. Besides the unremarkable modern university buildings, the campus’ defining feature is its landscaped plaza, the haunt of mostly students—it holds less interest than the Gothic architecture and leafy walkways of the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx.

Things to know before you go

  • Check the university’s event calendar for lectures, art exhibitions, and student performances.

  • Bring a camera to snap photos of the urban backdrop of Lincoln Center.

  • The area is close to a number of cultural institutions, museums, Broadway theaters.

How to get there

Fordham's Lincoln Center campus comprises two city blocks just off of Broadway between West 60th and West 62nd street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It's just a short walk from the 1, A, C, and D subway stations, and one block from Columbus Circle and the southwest side of Central Park.

When to get there

Visit the campus during the spring or fall for the most comfortable weather and a lively collegiate atmosphere. These are also good seasons for a stop in Central Park, though the summer tends to be best for outdoor performances and events.

What to see on Fordham’s Rose Hill Campus

About 8 miles (13 kilometers) north of Lincoln Center, Fordham’s Rose Hill campus has pretty green spaces, Gothic-style architecture, and historic buildings such as Keating Hall. Here, you can take in a more traditional scenic campus with tree-lined paths and seasonal gardens—and visit the New York Botanical Garden and Bronx Zoo nearby.
