Garosu-gil

Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do

Garosu-gil, meaning “tree-lined street” in Korean, is a 0.4-mile-long (700 meter) block in the trendy Gangnam neighborhood of Seoul. The street is lined with gingko trees that offer shade to shoppers who enjoy the eclectic boutiques with elaborate facades, and diners who frequent the neighborhood bakeries, cafés, and bistros.

The Basics

A hub of activity in Gangnam, Garosu-gil attracts locals and travelers, who come to shop, eat, and drink. You’ll find lots of little coffee shops and eateries that serve beautifully prepared meals and drinks. Garosu-gil is also known for restaurants that fuse Asian and European flavors, as well as art galleries and studios.

Many tours of the Gangnam District stop along the street, including Korean Wave-themed tours and the Gangnam Route of the Seoul hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus. Compare old and new by following your visit to the super-chic streets of Gangnam with a stop at the Joseon Dynasty Gyeongbok Palace.

How to Get There

Garosu-gil extends from Sinsa Station (Subway Line 3) to Hyundai High School. After getting off the train at Sinsa Station, leave through Exit 8. Walk about 800 feet (250 meters) and you’ll see the street on your left.

When to Get There

The shops, restaurants, and cafés along Garosu-gil are open year-round. One of the prettiest times to visit is during autumn, when the gingko leaves turn shades of yellow and gold.

Attractions in Garosu-gil

Shopping and eating are the main draws to this leafy neighborhood, but there are a couple of other noteworthy attractions nearby. Dosan Park features walking trails and a flower garden.
