Golden Reel
Estrada do Istmo, Macau, China
Plenty of cities have Ferris wheels, but Macau has one shaped like a figure eight, towering 425 feet (130 meters) above the Cotai Strip. Built into the facade of the Studio City entertainment complex, the Golden Reel offers some of the most beautiful views over Macau and the South China Sea.
The Basics
The Golden Reel’s design was based on a Hollywood-inspired tale of two flaming asteroids crashing through a building, leaving a figure eight shape—which also happens to resemble a 35mm film reel. Take a ride in one of the Golden Reel’s steampunk-themed cabins, with floors made partially of glass. Each cabin holds up to 10 passengers. Many visitors like to go after dark, to enjoy the nighttime views.
For extra savings, opt for a combo pass that includes the Golden Reel along with Batman Dark Flight, Warner Bros. Fun Zone, or both.
Things to Know Before You Go
The Golden Reel is a must for first-time visitors to Macau.
The Golden Reel is wheelchair-accessible.
How to Get There
The Golden Reel is located at Studio City. Free shuttle transportation is available from the city’s main transport hubs, including Macau Ferry Terminal, Taipa Ferry Terminal, and Macau International Airport. Public buses 15, 21A, 25, 26, and 51A also stop nearby. Taxis are a convenient option.
When to Get There
The Golden Reel is open daily, with extended hours on the weekend. For the best views, go on a clear day. Frequent rainstorms are likely during Macau’s typhoon season (May through September), which can affect or suspend operations.
Studio City
The Studio City complex is a key entertainment destination in Macau. In addition to the Golden Reel, you’ll find a 4D Batman simulator ride, the Warner Bros. Fun Zone, a 5,000-seat entertainment venue, and a 300-seat live-audience TV broadcast studio for game-show productions.
