Halifax Cruise Port

1215 Marginal Road, Halifax, NS, NS B3H 4P8

Halifax Seaport in Nova Scotia is where you’ll land if you’re coming to the city on a cruise. The seaport has plenty to offer visitors, including a daily farmers market. Most attractions are a short walk from the town center.

The basics

Halifax is the largest city in the Maritimes—as Canada’s Atlantic provinces are known. Get to know the city at live music performances, museums, local breweries, and restaurants. While the city center is packed with things to do, there’s plenty to explore right in the seaport area close to Piers 20 and 22, where most cruise ships dock.

The nearby farmer’s market sells local produce, plus street food such as lobster rolls and seafood chowder. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 looks back on its history as an entry point for new immigrants to Canada in the 20th century. While the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic explores the city’s connection with the ocean. Or, join shore excursions to Peggy’s Cove, take part in a walking tour, or arrange a private tour.

Things to know before you go

  • Cruise season generally lasts from Apr.–Nov.
  • The currency in Halifax is the Canadian dollar.
  • Be prepared for a grand entrance: A ship’s arrival in Halifax is marked with a member of the 78th Highlanders regiment playing the bagpipes on the waterfront.

How to get to Halifax from the Halifax Cruise Port

From the seaport area, you can choose to walk into town, a journey of around 15 minutes along the pretty boardwalk, or take a taxi or public bus. There’s usually a line of taxis ready and waiting when a ship arrives in port. The main VIA rail station is situated close to the seaport.
