Hammam Al Ándalus Málaga

Plaza de los Mártires Ciriaco y Paula 5, Malaga, Andalucia, 29008

Just off Martyrs Square, Hammam Al Andalus Malaga Baths is notable for its Moorish-inspired architecture, which encompasses horseshoe arches, colorful tiled walls, and star-shaped skylights. This is one of the few remaining places to experience age-old rituals of purification.

The basics

As per tradition, Hammam Al Ándalus Málaga has cold, warm, and hot baths, as well as a steam room and relaxation area where you can sip traditional mint tea. A typical session at the spa includes time in the various pools, followed by a hot stone and kessa (traditional Arabic glove) massage.

Available packages allow you to choose the duration of your massage and pick the essential oil you’d prefer to be treated with. You’re free to move freely around the hammam during your 90-minute session, and are notified when it’s time for your massage.

Things to know before you go

  • Book your hammam experience in advance as appointments are limited.
  • Towels, blow dryers, toiletries, and a locker are provided, but you must wear a bathing suit.
  • The hammam building is wheelchair accessible, but the pools have stairs.

How to get there

The hammam is in the historic medina in the center of Malaga, next to the Church of the Martyrs. It’s a 3-minute walk from Constitution Square near the Carretería (Álamos) bus stop, serviced by line 36.

When to get there

The hammam is open daily throughout the year, though sessions must be booked at least two days in advance. The baths offer experiences entirely indoors, and are a year-round destination.

Moorish culture in Malaga

Málaga was a major port city under the Moorish occupation of Spain, and that heritage remains evident today. No trip to the city is complete without a visit to the Alcazaba, one of the most famous buildings in Spain. Another landmark for travelers with an interest in Spain’s Moorish history is the Castle of Gibralfaro (Castillo de Gibralfaro) perched on a hilltop overlooking the city. This imposing castle dates back to the 10th century.
