Hammam Mouassine
Rue Sidi el Yamani, Marrakesh, Morocco, 40000
This traditional hammam experience is special because it takes place in one of the oldest riads and hammam complexes in Marrakech. Hammam Mouassine offers several treatments designed to make you feel your best. This isn’t a completely gentle affair since you’ll be scrubbed. But after this experience, you’ll feel smooth and rejuvenated, ready to hit the souks and medinas and take in the sights.
The basics
Be ready for both invigoration and relaxation with this hammam experience. Most include exfoliation, black soap purification, and oil treatment. You can also wash your hair with the shampoo provided and later relax with a cup of traditional mint tea.
Find a tour that includes hotel transfers to keep things easy for you. When you’re finished, you won’t want to deal with hailing a cab—you’ll want to stay in your rejuvenated state. Make sure to factor in some time to wander around the Mouassine complex and take photos of the fountains, tilework, and more. Some tours also offer add-ons like a Moroccan meal.
Things to know before you go
Note that this is not recommended for pregnant people.
Neither you nor your therapist will have many clothes on, so prepare yourself for this.
Many treatments and products will be used, so be careful if you have sensitive skin.
How to get there
Hammam Mouassine is easy to get to, and your taxi drivers should know it, too. It’s in a historic complex with a facade dating to the 16th century, so it’s been there for quite a while. Or, if you’re in the heart of the city, you can walk there. For reference, it’s about a 10-minute walk from Djemaa el-Fna.
When to get there
The hammam is open from 10am to 8pm daily, so it’s up to you when you prefer to experience your hammam treatment. It’s hot in the middle of the summer, so you might want to time it for then if you want an escape from the midday sun. Alternatively, you might want to have your hammam before a relaxing dinner and a good night’s sleep.
Djemaa el-Fna
Hammam Mouassine is a short walk from Djemaa el-Fna, so if it's around dinner time, you might want to swing by after your experience. In the afternoon, the vendors start setting up, and the smells of all kinds of delicious Moroccan dishes are being prepared to serve hungry tourists and locals alike. Or, just swing through for a glass of freshly squeezed, sweet orange juice.
