Hong Kong Skyline

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

The Hong Kong skyline glints with thousands of high-rises, and it's one of the top attractions in the city. The iconic skyscrapers inhabit both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon and are visible day or night. Nighttime views are most popular, however, as that's when buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbor light up.

The Basics

One of the most popular ways to experience the Hong Kong skyline is from the top of Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island. On Kowloon, top vistas include Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Sky100 Observation Deck in the International Commerce Center, Hong Kong’s tallest building. For more iconic views, take the Star Ferry or a Victoria Harbor cruise. The nightly multimedia light and sound show, Symphony of Lights, encompasses some 45 buildings along the harbor.

Most Hong Kong sightseeing tours feature the Hong Kong skyline, whether as a stop at a viewing site such as Victoria Peak, via an open-deck bus tour around the city, on a walking tour to a popular viewing spot, or on a cruise around the harbor. Or take to the skies on a helicopter tour for unparalleled views of the skyline.

  • Visitors may need to present ID and undergo security checks to access some indoor observation decks.

How to Get There

It’s easy to get around Hong Kong and to different locations for Hong Kong Skyline views using public transportation, including the MTR, ferry, buses, and minibuses. Taxis are also plentiful and fairly cheap.

When to Get There

The Hong Kong Skyline can be experience at any time, but it’s best viewed at night. The nightly Symphony of Lights show starts at 8pm and lasts for about 10 minutes. A number of bars and restaurants, including Ozone, Aqua Spirit, and Lobby Lounge at the Intercontinental, also offer good views.
