POINT OF INTEREST

i-City

i-City, Shah Alam, Selangor, 40000

Outside Kuala Lumpur, i-City is an urban, business, and tourism development that contains malls, offices, hotels, tourist attractions, and much more. Of most interest to travelers is the theme park, which consists of a water park, museums, fairground attractions, a Ferris wheel, and the largest snow park in Malaysia.

The Basics

i-City is a fun destination for all kinds of travelers, especially those with kids. Families like to come during the heat of the day to cool off at Water World, or to really chill out at the SnoWalk snow park. Additional attractions make i-City a full-day destination. It’s also beautiful after dark, when colorful LED lights illuminate forests of artificial trees.

Travelers can visit i-City independently or on a guided tour from Kuala Lumpur. Some tours include a visit to the nearby planned city of Putrajaya (the federal administrative center of Malaysia) or go to i-City at night, when it’s attractively lit up.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • i-City operates on a cashless system, so buy a prepaid expenses card at the entrance.

  • There are many places to get a snack or a meal at i-City.

  • The attractions each have their own entry fees. Access to the City of Digital Lights is free.

  • If visiting SnoWalk, there’s no need to bring your own warm clothes—coats can be borrowed for free, and boots rented.

How to Get There

i-City is in Shah Alam, southwest of Kuala Lumpur. The quickest way to reach i-City from central Kuala Lumpur is by car, as it’s about a 40-minute drive. It’s possible to get there by train and/or bus, but it can take around two hours. Visitors without their own transportation will appreciate the convenience of a tour that includes round-trip transfers.

When to Get There

The attractions at i-City are open every day of the week. Each attraction within the theme park has its own operating hours, which tend to be from late morning until late at night.

Visit Putrajaya

i-City isn’t the only development in this part of Malaysia. Visitors to the area can also check out Putrajaya, a highly planned area with both European- and Islamic-style architecture, including the rose granite Putra Mosque, as well as lakes, waterways, and parks. The city contrasts with nearby Kuala Lumpur, and travelers interested in contemporary architecture and urban planning will especially enjoy visiting.
