Icelandic Phallological Museum

Boasting the world’s biggest collection of penises, the Icelandic Phallological Museum is certainly a unique institution, yet it is also—perhaps surprisingly—educational. The independent, family-owned institution was born out of a modest personal collection and has since grown to become the world’s only museum dedicated to phallology.
The basics
The museum’s collection of penises of many different sizes showcase the diversity of land and sea mammals, from that of a mouse and a hamster, to that of a polar bear and a sperm whale. Visitors will find specimens from around 90 species of mammals, including all of those native to Iceland, even a human. Beyond the phallic displays and biological information, the museum provides insights into the cultural history of the penis as well as its significance in Icelandic folklore.

How to get there
The Icelandic Phallological Museum is located in downtown Reykjavik, close to the city's main shopping and dining areas. It’s around 10-15-minute walk from Hallgrimskirkja, so is easily accessible by foot if you’re staying in the center. Just steps from the museum, the Lækjartorg A bus stop is served by multiple bus routes.
When to get there
The museum is open seven days a week, from mid-morning until evening; it’s a great indoor option for rainy days in Reykjavik. If you’re visiting during the peak summer months, try to go earlier in the day to avoid the crowds.
Phallic Café
Visitors can savor sweet or savory penis-shaped waffles in the museum’s Phallic Café. If that doesn’t whet your appetite, you can opt for a classic cocktail, beer from the local RVK Brewing company, or coffee made with beans from independent small growers and roasted by East Icelandic micro-roasters.
