POINT OF INTEREST

Jockey Plaza

Avenida Javier Prado Este 4200, Santiago de Surco, Lima, Peru, 15023

Jockey Plaza is one of Lima’s biggest, newest, and most popular shopping malls. The bi-level American-style outdoor shopping complex in the Surco neighborhood offers over 400 small boutiques hawking well-known international brands, and popular South American department stores.

The Basics

The mall has ample outdoor areas with seating, making it a nice place to spend an afternoon, even if you’re not buying. Non-shoppers will also find a Cinemark movie complex, a food court serving a variety of international fast food options like Starbucks, Hard Rock Cafe,xa0 and Burger King alongside family restaurants serving Peruvian cuisine, and a small theme park for young children.

Travelers may explore the plaza on their own or as part of a guided half-day tour that encompasses the best in Lima retail and handicrafts, moving from top venues like Larcomar to find designer duds to handicrafts markets to find unique artisan jewelry, alpaca wool clothing, locally-made rugs and more.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Suitable for shoppers of all ages; families with small kids will enjoy the recreation area and plentiful ice cream shops with exotic flavors.
  • ATM's are readily available in the city center, although some may only accept local cards.
  • Credit cards are typically accepted, with VISA cards being preferred.
  • Tours may include round trip hotel pickup. Check specific tours for details.

How to Get There

Jockey Plaza is on Avenida Javier Prado Este on the outskirts of the Surco district, heading to La Molina. Take a taxi to the mall since parking is usually full. There are no direct bus routes from Miraflores or Barranco, and even the buses from the historical district take about an hour.

When to Get There

Jockey Plaza is open year-round, Monday - Saturday, 7:30am - 10:00pm; Sunday, 8:00pm - 10:00pm. Avoid weekends since they are very crowded; shop instead as early in the morning as possible. In general, the best time to visit Lima is wintertime (May–September) when it's the driest, especially important if planning a trip to Cusco or trek to Machu Picchu. The summer months (December–March) are warmer, but wetter, and in Lima especially, quite foggy.

Tours Combining Larcomar Visit

From its dramatic cliffside perch above the Pacific Ocean, upscale Larcomar Shopping Center is Lima’s most scenic shopping destination as well as one of the city’s most modern and fashionable. With open-air terraces for enjoying the view and having a bite to eat, shoppers can relax in between dips into upmarket designer boutiques and charming shops selling Peruvian handicrafts.
