POINT OF INTEREST

Kamloops BC Wildlife Park

9077 Dallas Drive, Kamloops, British Columbia

Dedicated to the rehabilitation and protection of Canada’s native wildlife, the BC Wildlife Park in Kamloops is home to over 200 animals, including Arctic wolves, bison, and cougars, most of which have been rescued. Visitors can engage in activities ranging from observing grizzly bear feedings to holding a snake.

With educational talks and interactive activities held daily, the park offers lots of opportunities for those looking to learn more about Canada’s wildlife. Explore exhibits about British Columbia’s ecosystem at the Discovery Centre; see wolves, deer, bobcats, and bears (including a rare kermode bear, a black bear with white fur); and take the kids to the train and the splash park. Visitors will leave with an understanding of the animals’ lifestyles, habitats, and threats—and information about how to help protect these species.

  • The BC Wildlife Park is an ideal attraction for wildlife lovers and conservationists.

  • The park is wheelchair accessible; wheelchairs are available to borrow, and you can rent strollers.

  • The park provides free Wi-Fi, and an onsite cafe sells snacks and drinks.

  • Check the online activity schedule to time your visit to a feeding or demonstration.

  • Some wildlife tours and demonstrations must be booked separately and carry an additional (and relatively expensive) fee.

Just off the Trans-Canada Highway, the park is easy to reach by car or public transportation. The park is a 15-minute drive from downtown Kamloops, and BC Transit offers regular service to the park from Lansdowne Village in the Kamloops city center.

The park is open all year round with hours varying based on the season. Some activities—such as the birds of prey show, train rides, and wildlife encounters—are only available in the summer. Visit from mid-December through the beginning of January for the holiday Wildlights Festival.

While zoos are always a great stop on a family vacation, the BC Wildlife Park increases the fun by offering miniature train rides through the park on the Wildlife Express, a playground, and a splash park. Kids can also pet the farm animals at the park’s family farm and engage with wildlife during the daily wildlife encounters.
