How to Get There
Karaweik Palace is located on the eastern shore of Kandawgyi Lake, in central Yangon. It’s an easy and cheap taxi ride from downtown.
When to Get There
Karaweik Palace is open daily for lunch from 11am to 3pm and dinner from 6pm to 9pm. The Royal Culture Show is performed daily from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The restaurant is illuminated at night, a stunning sight in the reflection of Kandawgyi Lake.
Design of Karaweik Palace
Karaweik Palace was inspired by the Burmese pavilion displayed at the 1970 World Exposition in Osaka, Japan. That display was itself inspired by the Pyi Gyi Mon Royal Barge used for ceremonial processions in Mandalay. Karaweik Palace takes its name from the mythical birds from Burmese folklore that adorn the front of the barge.
