Kobe Harborland
1 Chome Higashikawasakicho, Kobe, Hyogo, 650-0044
Spread along Kobe’s sparkling waterfront, Kobe Harborland encompasses shopping, dining, entertainment, and more. The bustling, attraction-packed area is one of the Japanese city’s most-popular destinations for locals and visitors alike.
The basics
Whether you're looking to shop, dine, explore the entertainment options, or simply take in the waterfront views, Kobe Harborland has something to suit your interests. The first stop for many visitors is Umie, which consists of three parts: Mosaic has a wide selection of restaurants, a Ferris wheel, and the Anpanman Museum, dedicated to the popular manga and anime series; the South Mall and North Mall are enclosed shopping malls, home to a department store and various smaller stores.
Visits to Kobe Harborland are typically included on sightseeing tours around Kobe, between stops at other top attractions such as Meriken Park and Otsunakadori shopping street.
Things to know before you go
While there is no fee to enter Kobe Harborland, there are individual costs for certain attractions. Cruises around Kobe Bay depart from Kobe Harborland. Kobe Harborland is wheelchair accessible.
How to get there
Kobe Harborland is easily accessible by public transportation. It is a short walk from JR Kobe Station, Kobe Subway Harborland Station, and Hanshin Railway Kosoku Kobe Station. It’s also walkable from other Kobe attractions, such as Meiken Park, which is just five minutes away.
When to get there
Opening hours differ from business to business, but are generally from mid-morning until late evening. Kobe Harborland is particularly attractive in the evening: The waterfront’s buildings are illuminated and Gaslight Street, which runs through the center, is lit up by old-fashioned gas street lamps and electric lights.
Other attractions
Kobe Harboland’s Brick Warehouse area (Renga Soko) offers a historic atmosphere thanks to the 19th-century brick warehouses that have been renovated and transformed into restaurants, stores, and event spaces. There is also a 24-hour hot spring located on the top floors of the Puromena skyscaper, which offers excellent city views from the baths.
