La Quebrada Cliff Divers

La Quebrada 25, Acapulco, Guerrero, 39340

One of Acapulco's most popular attractions, La Quebrada Cliff Divers perform daily shows. Beginning in the 1930s, these brave young men and women began leaping over 100 feet (30 meters) past craggy rocks into an inlet crashing with waves that are just 13 feet (4 meters) deep. The daredevil acts continue to elicit oohs and ahs from the rapt audience.

The basics

Most guided tours of Acapulco stop to watch the cliff divers. You can also book dinner at La Perla, a restaurant in the historic El Mirador hotel that overlooks the Pacific Ocean, for front-row seats to an evening show. Or, charter a boat to see the divers take the plunge as you bob in the surrounding waters. Performed in the afternoon and evenings, the diving ritual begins with a prayer at the shrine to La Virgen de Guadalupe carved into the cliff-top platform.

Things to know before you go

  • There’s a small fee to access the viewing platform.

  • You’ll need to climb up the steps to get to the observation deck.

  • The divers have to time their plunges carefully, coordinating with the waves.

  • Expect the divers to approach you after the show asking for a tip.

How to get there

Most guided tours of Acapulco include round-trip transport to the public viewing platform near the cliff; this offers the best views of La Quebrada Cliff Divers. Taxis are also readily available. Although Acapulco has an extensive bus system, there are no bus stops near the cliff divers; renting a car is not recommended as the winding roads of the La Quebrada peninsula can make the spot difficult to find.

When to get there

La Quebrada Cliff Divers perform an afternoon show, typically around 1 pm, and several throughout the evening. During the night shows, the divers carry torches, making the performances particularly popular among tourists, especially on weekends. Be sure to arrive early as space is very limited and the area is usually crowded.

The best beaches in Acapulco

Known for its sandy shores, Acapulco offers plenty of options for some fun in the sun. You’ll find the most popular spots in El Dorado (or the Golden Zone). At Playa Icacos, enjoy a swim, along with rentable chairs and refreshments, and at Playa Condesa expect crowds and water sports access.
