POINT OF INTEREST

Lido Mediterraneo Beach

Via Dei Lidi, Paestum, SA, 84047

With its soft sand, cobalt water, and a full array of services from a sea-view restaurant to furnished private gazebos, Lido Mediterraneo Beach is the ideal spot for sun and fun on the waterfront. Located minutes from Paestum’s ancient Greek temples, the beach club is easy to pair with an archaeological site tour.

The basics

Marvel at the magnificent temples at the Archaeological Park of Paestum (Parco Archeologico di Paestum), then make a beeline to the sun-washed waterfront of Lido Mediterraneo Beach. You can visit the beach after a morning tour and tasting at one of Paestum’s traditional buffalo dairy farms, where authentic mozzarella is produced. These highlights are minutes from the beach club, making them easy to include in a day trip from Salerno, Sorrento, or the Amalfi Coast.

Things to know before you go

  • You must rent an umbrella and beach chairs or a furnished gazebo to access this private beach club.
  • The beach club restaurant serves lunch and dinner—including gazebo service on the beach—and the snack bar is stocked with drinks and nibbles.
  • A shaded playground, shallow water, family-friendly restrooms, and changing cabanas make Lido Mediterraneo Beach perfect for families.
  • The beach has a boardwalk to the water’s edge for easy wheelchair and stroller access.

How to get there

Lido Mediterraneo Beach is about a 10-minute drive from the Archaeological Park of Paestum and its nearby buffalo mozzarella producers. Reach the beach by rental car—parking is available at the beach club—or book a private driving tour with full-day transportation. Alternatively, take a taxi to the beach club as there is no nearby public transit.

When to get there

This chic beach club is a warm-weather destination, though the high-season crowds in July and August make it a challenge to find an umbrella or gazebo free. For balmy temperatures without the scrum of bathers, visit in late spring or early fall; the club closes for winter.

Paestum’s famous buffalo mozzarella

The authentic buffalo mozzarella produced in the buffalo dairy farms ringing the Paestum temples is one of the most prized delicacies in the Campania region. Many dairies are open to visitors for guided tours. You'll see the barns and cheese-production rooms, plus get tastings of fresh buffalo mozzarella or full lunches featuring artisan cheese and other local specialties. You can also purchase fresh cheese to take away for a beach picnic at the farm shops.
