Lippo Centre

In a city full of striking skyscrapers, Lippo Centre stands out with its unusual design. Nicknamed the “Koala Tree” for its resemblance to koalas climbing a tree, the building, which was designed by American architect Paul Rudolph, consists of two office towers with a large common atrium and a 4-story retail podium at its base.
The Basics
Located in Hong Kong’s Admiralty district, tower one of Lippo Centre stands 564 feet (172 meters) tall and contains 42 floors, while tower two stands 610 feet (186 meters) tall and contains 46 floors. Formerly known as the Bond Centre, the buildings opened in 1988. The exteriors of the two octagonal buildings feature dark blue, refractive curtain walls. The office towers are home to a few consulates, including the consulates for Angola, Brunei, Mongolia, and Taiwan. The retail podium contains shops and a number of restaurants.
It’s easy view or visit Lippo Centre independently. Walking tours covering Central and Admiralty also have views of the building, and tram tours pass by a number of key attractions on Hong Kong Island.
Things to Know Before You Go
To access floors above the retail podium, visitors will have to show ID and undergo a security check.
Lippo Centre can be accessed at street level and via the elevated walkway.
Good views of Lippo Centre can be had from all angles; for unobstructed views, head to Hong Kong Park.
How to Get There
Lippo Centre is located on Queensway, in Admiralty. Take the MTR to Admiralty (exit B) and walk west or to Central (exit J2) and walk east. By bus, take line 37, 43X, 70, 75, 90, 97, 590A, 680, or 930. Or take the tram to the Cotton Tree Drive stop.
When to Get There
The exterior of the Lippo Centre can be viewed at any time. Different offices and retail shops and restaurants have different opening hours, so it’s best to check ahead before planning a visit.
Elevated Walkway
Lippo Centre is connected to the Admiralty portion of the Central Elevated Skywalk, an extensive covered, elevated footbridge network that spans a large number of buildings in Central, Sheung Wan, and Admiralty. In Admiralty, it reaches north to the Central District Promenade and the LegCo Complex, east to Citic Tower, south to Hong Kong Park and Pacific Place, and west to AIA Central and the Cheung Kong Building.
