Loizaga Tower (Torre Loizaga)

The basics

Classic autos, sports cars, and luxury rides can all be admired at Loizaga Tower, located 18 miles (30 kilometers) from Bilbao. Explore the history of Rolls-Royce, exhibited through three halls of vehicles, including cars once owned by royals and celebrities. You'll also find Ferrari sports cars, vintage Bentleys, and cars manufactured in series production, like the Ford Model T. Housed inside a restored medieval tower, once part of Concejuelo Castle, this museum has very limited hours, but makes a unique stop in Biscay in the Basque Country.

How to get there

It’s about a 45-minute drive to reach the Loizaga Tower from Bilbao. By car, exit the Autovía A-8 at Abanto y Ciérvana-Abanto Zierbena. Go south on the N-634 towards Somorrostro Muskiz, then take the BI-2701 south toward Sopuerta. Exit for the BI-3631 East toward Galdames Güeñes and take a mud track south marked Torre Loizaga.

When to get there

The tower is only open on Sundays and national holidays, from morning to mid-afternoon; during the rest of the week it’s open by reservation only. The summer season is the most popular time to visit.

History of the tower

The building was rescued by businessman Miguel de la Via, who worked with expert stonecutters for over a decade to restore it from ruin. He combined his passion for Rolls-Royce cars with the medieval structure and natural scenery, creating an unexpected Basque attraction.
