Lukiskes Square (Lukiskiu Aikste) is the largest in the city, and its history dates back to the 17th century when this corner of Vilnius was a bucolic enclave dotted with wooden houses. Since, the park has been enveloped by urban space, where it's bordered by Gediminas Avenue, and steps from the baroque Church of St. James and St. Philip.
The basics
Once the site of many charming baroque buildings, the area around Lukiskes Square today mostly reflects the 1950s architectural relics of Communist occupation, when this tiny green space was renamed Lenin Square. You can visit to enjoy a coffee, pick up share bikes at the park's CycloCity docking station, or relax beneath the shade trees on benches along the park's perimeter.
The square is conveniently-situated if you want to pair a stop at one of Vilnius' nearby museums. Within a few blocks you can find the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights—an ideal destination for history enthusiasts—as well as the Vytautas Kasiulis Art Museum, and the Money Museum, which is located just down the block on Gediminas Avenue.

- You can find public restrooms at the southeastern corner of Lukiskes Square.
- Families can visit the playground at the northwestern side of the park to let the kids swing, slide, and burn off some energy.
- The park has an on-site café kiosk.
How to get there
You can walk out the front doors of the Vilnius Cathedral, stroll down tree-lined Gedimino Avenue, and reach Lukiskes Square in about 20-minutes. You can also hop on the bus. Take the 22 or 52 buses to the Lukiškės stop.
When to get there
Plan to visit this centrally-located Lukiskes Square whenever it's convenient, or stop by after exploring the Old Town. Since the square is most pleasant when the sun's shining, you should avoid the typically chilly winter months, and visit in late-spring or early-autumn, when you can expect pleasant weather and fewer crowds.
