Marche Provencal
Cr Masséna, Antibes, France, 06600
Whatever Provençal food you want to try, you’ll likely find it under the covers of Antibes’ beautiful old town market, Marché Provençal. The treasure trove of edible produce boasts local fruit and vegetables, olive oil, cheese, and of course saucisson alongside souvenir items like lavender and honey. Expect tourist prices, colorful local food, and a lively, friendly vibe.
The basics
French Riviera day trips tend to make Antibes an early stop on their itineraries so visitors can catch this bustling market. If you’re in Antibes anyway, bike tours and walking tours pass by, giving a nod to the market’s history in their commentary. There are also Provencal food tours and tasting experiences that may include a visit to the market, too.
For visiting on your own, there are no admission fees to consider. Just head inside to browse the stalls and shop as you wish.
Things to know before you go
With restaurants, cafes, and a seafood market nearby, Marché Provençal makes a great breakfast or lunch stop.
Wheelchair users and visitors with kids in strollers should note that the market is particularly crowded in the peak summer months.
One of Antibes's few covered and free-to-enter attractions, the market works well for spontaneous trips on hot or rainy days.
How to get there
You can find the market in the covered area of the Cours Massena, Place Nationale in the heart of Antibes. It’s roughly a 30-minute walk from the train station and close to several bus stops. Drivers will find a mix of on-street parking and paid lots away from the old town's pedestrian zone.
When to get there
The market is on every morning, except for Monday in the quieter months between September and the end of May. You’ll find stalls open from the early morning until early lunchtime, giving you a chance to pick up food for breakfast or lunch.
Local specialties at the market
Steer clear of the food you can find anywhere and scout out the local bites at the market instead. Grab the lunchtime staple of socca niçoise, a chickpea pancake or flatbread, or try samples of tapenades made with local olives, pâte made with anchovies, or lavender honey. Nougat candy and the aniseed pastis liqueur are among other French Riviera and Provençal specialties.
