Marina di Praia
Via Praia, Praiano, SA, 84010
Set inside a tiny cliff-lined inlet just outside of the coastal village of Praiano, Marina di Praia is one of the most charming beaches on the Amalfi Coast. The pocket-sized stretch of pebbles and rocks is lapped by cobalt water, and a clutch of rental umbrellas and beach chairs sit next to rows of cheery wooden fishing boats, making for a picturesque scene.
The basics
Boat tours of the Amalfi Coast often pass Marina di Praia as they cruise between Positano and Amalfi, and there is a small dock where boats can dock for passengers to disembark for time on the beach or lunch at one of the restaurants lining the waterfront. You can also work in a stop at Marina di Praia as part of a private driving tour along the Amalfi Coast; there is a steep, narrow access road down to the beach so that you can be dropped steps from the water.
Things to know before you go
- The former fishing hamlet just behind the beach is now occupied by a handful of restaurants serving fresh fish and seafood.
- Take a walk along the panoramic cliffside path from Marina di Praia over the water west for spectacular views of the coastline.
- Wear water shoes to protect your feet from the rocks and pebbles on the beach and below the water.
- You can rent an umbrella and beach chairs for the day or spread out on the tiny public area of the beach.
- The beach is not accessible to wheelchairs or strollers.
How to get there
Marina di Praia sits just below the famed Amalfi Coast road (SS 163), and you can reach the beach by Sita bus—get off at the Marina di Praia stop and walk down the steep access road—or by car. Remember that parking is limited and expensive on the coast, so public transportation is the better option. You can also reach the beach by taxi boat from any town on the Amalfi Coast.
When to get there
Marina di Praia is bookended by tall cliffs, so it only gets sun during the midday hours and is shaded in the morning and afternoon. The restaurants and beach clubs shutter from October to April, so visit in the summer months to enjoy the beach at its most lively.
Praiano’s best beach clubs
Marina di Praia offers the only free public beach in Praiano, but there are plenty of beach clubs perched on the coastal cliffs. These clubs have umbrellas and beach chairs set along platforms over the sea and ladders to get in and out of the water. Il Pirata is the closest to Marina di Praia, connected to the beach via a walking path built into the cliff’s face. On the west side of Praiano’s promontory, One Fire and Gavitella share a large waterfront platform and views of Positano.
