Marine Habitat at Atlantis
One Casino Drive, Suite 20, Nassau, Paradise Island
The Marine Habitat at Atlantis is the largest open-air marine habitat on earth, with over 50,000 animals and 250 different species, from rays to alligator gar. The aquarium features 14 lagoons, which contain roughly eight million gallons of ocean water and are filled with picturesque caves and underwater ruins.
The Basics
The Marine Habitat is packed with a variety of themed aquariums and pools, from a nursery area where younger animals are raised to a shark lagoon (which you can slide through on a glassed-in waterslide). Watch sharks, barracudas, and rays swim in the Predator Lagoon, then get up close with the fish by snorkeling in the Ruins Lagoon.
The habitat is free for guests staying at the Atlantis resort, but cruise-ship passengers and people staying elsewhere can pre-book day passes that allow full access to the habitat and many of the resort’s other facilities.
Things to Know Before You Go
The Marine Habitat is a wonderful destination for anyone with an interest in sea life.
Guests staying outside of the resort must pre-book day passes.
All visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The habitat is wheelchair accessible.
How to Get There
The Marine Habitat is situated on the grounds of the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, about a 20-minute taxi ride north of Nassau. Shared water taxis heading to the island depart from behind the Straw Market in the heart of Nassau every half hour or so.
When to Get There
The Marine Habitat is open around the clock; visit in the early morning to avoid crowds. Fish and animal feeding times vary, so show up early and grab a copy of the resort's daily newsletter, the Atlantean, to get the schedule. Tours are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; book ahead if you want to snorkel in the ruins.
Aquaventure
Visitors to Atlantis may want to consider adding a visit to Aquaventure, the resort's sprawling on-site waterpark, to their day. Get your adrenaline pumping with exhilarating slides, enjoy the rapid-heavy lazy river along, and let the kids have fun in the pools and play areas. Adventurous guests won’t want to miss the Leap of Faith, a near-vertical plunge slide that shoots down from the resort’s faux Mayan temple.
