POINT OF INTEREST

Mayfield Falls

Williamsfield, JAM

Located in Westmoreland parish, Mayfield Falls is a series of 21 mostly small cascades and natural pools along the Mayfield River. Surrounded by lush jungle, the falls are an ideal outdoor water playground and include underwater caves, natural jacuzzis, and two waterfalls large enough for visitors to go behind.

Visitors can walk the length of the Mayfield River to all 21 cascades. Guides are available at the falls and can provide advice on the safest way to explore the falls, including where to walk, jump, and scramble, and how to navigate the underwater caves safely and to get behind several of the waterfalls, including the largest waterfall, the 9.8-foot (3-meter) “Washing Machine.”

Mayfield Falls can be visited as part of a tour from Negril, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios, and combined with other attractions such as Benta River Falls, Rick’s Café in Negril, or Margaritaville in Negril.

  • There’s an entrance fee to access the falls.

  • Bring water shoes for the slippery rocks or rent a pair at the falls. Lockers are also available for rent.

  • The welcome center offers a restaurant, gift shop, and restrooms.

Mayfield Falls is located in Glenbrook, Westmoreland Parish, near the border with Hanover Parish. The road to the falls can be rough, so visitors may want to take a taxi, hire a driver, or go on a tour that includes transfers. Parking is available on-site. Visitors will need to walk along or in the river to see the cascades and pools.

Mayfield Falls is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Although the site isn’t as packed as other waterfalls in Jamaica, it’s best to arrive early to beat the crowds. Most guided tours of the falls last 1 to 2 hours. The rocks can be especially slick and difficult to climb during the rainy season (May, June, October, and November).

Waterfall fans can combine a visit to Mayfield Falls with nearby Benta River Falls, which features seven waterfalls and a lagoon. Further away, popular waterfall options include YS Falls near Saint Elizabeth along the South Coast, Turtle River Falls, Island Gully Falls (Blue Hole), and Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios.
