Meads Bay
Anguilla
Meads Bay is a strip of classic white Caribbean sand washed by bright turquoise water and lined with upscale resorts and restaurants.
The basics
Whether you’re staying at one of the chic hotels on Meads Bay or visiting Anguilla as part of a day-long catamaran or speedboat tour from St. Maarten, this beautiful beach has a lot to recommend it. The water is safe for swimming and the various resorts you’ll find here offer up plenty of choices for a lazy lunch in the shade, or a classic rum punch cocktail. Meads Bay is one of the best beaches for sunset watching on the island.
Things to know before you go
If you’re here in August, keep your eye out for the August Thursday boat race that takes place on the first Thursday of the month in the waters off Meads Bay.
The waves at Meads Bay can be bigger than elsewhere on the island, depending on the weather.
There’s limited shade at the beach, so remember to bring sunscreen and a hat, or consider renting a lounger with an umbrella.
How to get there
Meads Bay is located in the southwest of the island. The best way to get around on Anguilla is by car or taxi—there’s no public transportation available. While there’s a small airport on the island, most international flights in the region arrive at the nearby island of St. Maarten. Ferries, speedboats, and local flights connect Anguilla to St. Maarten daily.
When to get there
High season in Anguilla is mid-December to mid-April, when hot, sunny days are the norm and all the bars and restaurants on the island are open. From May to July the weather can be very hot, and June to November is hurricane season, when storms are most likely and some businesses might be closed.
Visit Shoal Bay
Shoal Bay is one of the most impressive beaches on Anguilla—and that’s saying a lot. For many travelers to the island, it's a must-visit. It’s also one of the best snorkeling spots around, so bring your mask and flippers!
