MIA Park
Doha, Qatar
Forming a crescent around the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) on Doha’s waterfront is MIA Park. This calm green space in the city provides excellent views of the museum and even better ones from the East Mound across to the West Bay skyline. Palm trees line its promenade leading to the steel sculpture on its point, standing proud like a minaret.
The basics
Many visitors come to MIA Park after seeing the Museum of Islamic Art, or simply to enjoy views of Doha’s skyline. A walk through the park may only take you 20 minutes, but you could spend up to an hour, especially if you sit to take in the sunset, possibly with tea or a cold drink. Sightseeing tours often visit different spots along Doha’s waterfront for its views, so it’s worth asking to specifically visit MIA Park if you want to go there on your tour.
Things to know before you go
- MIA Park shares a large parking lot with the Museum of Islamic Art.
- The East Mound is home to several cafés where you can have a drink or snack with the view.
- The park is a great place for families, with a playground, long grassy slopes, and people often flying kites overhead.
- Several public restrooms are located in the park.
How to get there
MIA Park is at the eastern end of Doha’s Corniche, north of the city’s downtown area. The park does not have a metro station nearby, so you’ll either need to walk there, or more likely, take a rideshare or private car. It takes about 30 minutes to walk there from the Souq Waqif (and its metro station).
When to get there
Like so many outdoor attractions in Doha, MIA Park is best visited once the sun starts to go down. Sunset is a popular time to come to the park’s East Mound and see the skyline across the water with a colorful sky behind it. Stay after dark and you also get to see West Bay illuminated in its many colors.
Parks in Doha
Visitors unfamiliar with Doha may be expecting a dry desert city, but the wealthy metropolis actually has a lot of green space. Along with MIA Park, Doha’s waterfront is home to Al Dafna Park and the vast Al Bidda Park, among others. Farther out, visitors can find the Aspire Park with its lake and iconic torch-shaped tower, which serves as a popular recreation space for families and fitness enthusiasts.
