Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre

65 Treaty Trail, Millbrook, NS, NS B6L 1W3

Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre documents the history of Nova Scotia’s Mi’kmaq people, a Native American tribe indigenous to Canada’s Maritime Provinces. Located in the town of Truro, the museum houses ancient artifacts, such as stone tools and porcupine quillwork, plus interactive exhibits covering Mi’kmaq language and culture.

The Basics

Highlights of the museum include exhibits on ancient Mi’kmaq tools and crafts, an interactive audio panel that teaches you to say hello and goodbye in the Mi’kmaq language, and a boulder inscribed with Mi’kmaq petroglyphs. At the museum’s entrance you’ll find a 40-foot (12-meter) statue of Glooscap—a legendary Mi’kmaq figure who is said to have been the first human on earth, created by a bolt of lightning in the sand.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The museum is a must-see for history buffs.

  • Visitor facilities include an information center and gift shop.

  • All museum displays are written in both English and the Mi’kmaq language.
