POINT OF INTEREST

Mont-Tremblant Ski Resort

1000 Chem. des Voyageurs, Mont-Tremblant, Canada

With its European feel and easy access from Montreal, this Quebec resort is one of eastern Canada’s big adventure hubs. Ample winter snow blankets more than 100 trails across 755 acres (305 hectares) with terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels, while summer and fall draw hikers and cyclists. Off-mountain, find year-round activities from sleigh rides to rail trails.

The basics

While Mont-Tremblant Ski Resort is famed for its winter sports, opportunities for exploring go beyond the mountain itself. There are two championship golf courses, the Brind’O Aquaclub water park, the Treetop Walk observatory, and a surrounding landscape of small villages linked by the Parc Linéaire le P'tit Train du Nord bike path. Some popular activities get booked up, so it’s worth making advance reservations for excursions like guided dog-sledding trips, ATV tours, and scenic helicopter rides.

Things to know before you go

  • The resort is great for families, with year-round activities for kids.

  • Visitors from the United States should bring Canadian dollars or a credit card, since US dollars aren’t widely accepted.

  • If you’re visiting in the winter, pack a scarf to protect your face as Mont-Tremblant can get windy.

  • Adaptive skiing equipment and instruction are available at Mont-Tremblant for visitors with disabilities and special needs, but need to be reserved at least 72 hours before arrival.

How to get there

Mont-Tremblant Ski Resort is in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, 78 miles (125 kilometers) from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, or about 1.5 hours by car. During the ski season, free shuttle services are available from the parking lots. Lots offer charging stations for electric vehicles; the lot P4 has room for recreational vehicles and vehicles with trailers.

When to get there

The winter ski season generally goes from late November through mid-April, with the best conditions in January and February. Brilliant autumn foliage makes this a great place to visit for fall colors, too, whether you’re hiking, cycling, ziplining, or just enjoying the view. The color change tends to start in late September, with the leaves fading or falling off by mid-to-late October.

Winter activities in Mont-Tremblant for non-skiers

While skiing and snowboarding are big draws in the winter season, there’s plenty to do here for non-skiers, too. Go for a skate at one of the resort’s ice rinks, or try out snow adventures like dog sledding, sleigh rides, or snowmobiling. There are also some indoor-outdoor Nordic spas in the Laurentians, with cycles of hot and cold designed for peak relaxation.
