Nasrid Palaces
Granada, Andalucia
The Nasrid Palaces are a masterpiece of Moorish architecture, located within the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Alhambra complex in Granada. Once the royal residence of the kings of Granada, this stunning complex consists of three buildings: the Mexuar, the Palace of Comares, and the Palace of the Lions. Each area features intricate Islamic art, detailed mosaics, geometric patterns, and serene courtyards.
The basics
Visit the Nasrid Palaces with a guided tour that also includes the Alhambra and the Generalife. Shared small-group tours often feature skip-the-line entry to avoid the famously long lines, while some travelers opt for private guided tours with admission included for a more personalized experience. If traveling independently, you can choose an entry package that comes with a self-guided audio tour.
Things to know before you go
- There are ramps installed so Nasrid Palaces is accessible to wheelchair-users, but not all parts of the wider Alhambra complex are accessible; there’s an accessible itinerary on the Alhambra website.
- You’re only allowed to take small 40x40cm bags inside, but there are free lockers available to leave your belongings.
- Strollers are not permitted inside: If you have a stroller, you’re able to leave it in a locker and borrow a carrier backpack (suitable for children up to 12kg).
- There are designated picnic areas, but note there are no eateries on-site. There are vending machines selling food and drinks.
How to get there
The Nasrid Palaces are part of the world-renowned Alhambra complex in Granada, which is easily accessible by public transport. If traveling from the center of Granada, take the C32 bus from Plaza Isabel la Catolica 4. Alternatively, join a guided tour or book a taxi for convenience.
When to get there
The Nasrid Palaces are open year-round, with the gardens being particularly enchanting in spring and fall. Hours are seasonal, with later closing from April to mid-October. There are night tours available throughout the year; times depend on the season, so check ahead. If you’d like to visit when it’s quietest, plan your trip for a weekday early morning—close to opening time—or late afternoon. Sunset makes for stunning photos, so that’s a great option for photography enthusiasts.
Food and drink options near the Nasrid Palaces
While there are no restaurants within the Nasrid Palaces, there are several options on the outskirts of the Alhambra. Pizza Sandwiches and Go Alhambra offers pizza by the slice, as well as light bites and drinks. For a more substantial meal, there’s Restaurante Jardines Alberto, which serves pasta, seafood, meat dishes, and salads.
