Ojstrica

Take a short hike to this panoramic vista point in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps to find the best views of picturesque Lake Bled, Bled Island, and the surrounding peaks and forests. Technically, Ojstrica is the lower of two scenic viewpoints over the lake—a second viewpoint called Osojnica is a bit farther up the same trail.
The basics
The hike from the Zaka campsite on the west side of Lake Bled to the viewpoint should take no more than 20–30 minutes each way. With the proper footwear, it’s an easy hike with the magnificent rewards of bird’s-eye views over one of Slovenia’s prettiest locations. After reaching the top to soak in the views, you can hike back to the campsite or continue on the same trail to the Osojnica viewpoint, which you can reach in about another 20 minutes.

- Ojstrica is ideal for travelers looking for the best views of Lake Bled.
- Wear proper footwear, as the path is steep, rocky, and muddy when wet.
- A second trailhead for direct access to Osojnica involves a much steeper climb with wire ropes and metal staircases.
- Bring a water bottle and a camera—you’ll want to snap pictures of the unreal views.
How to get there
Ojstrica is on the southwestern side of Lake Bled, about 2 miles (3.5 kilometers) from the town of Bled. It’s about a 10-minute drive or a 45-minute walk from the town center to the trailhead, which is near the western side of the lake, close to the Zaka camping area.
When to get there
The best time to hike to Ojstrica is during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn. The trail is accessible year-round, but in the winter it can be icy and dangerous, and many of the area’s restaurants, cafés, and tour and activity outfitters are closed. Sunrise and sunset offer the best views and lighting for photography.
Where to hike near Lake Bled
Serene Lake Bled isn’t a hardcore hiking destination, but offers several pleasant, relatively easy hikes, starting with the Lake Bled Loop Trail, a 3.7-mile (6-kilometer) path around the entire lake. The Mala Osojnica and Velika Osojnica trails are slightly longer than the Ojstrica trail but are in the same region. For something different, try the “easy” rated Vintgar Gorge Trail, which takes you through the gorge past waterfalls and the Radovna River in Triglav National Park, roughly 10 minutes from Bled by car.
