Paradise Valley Agadir

Imouzzer Ida Ou Tanane, Agadir, Morocco, 85000

A limestone canyon in the foothills of the High Atlas mountains, Paradise Valley Agadir is a lush oasis sprinkled with rock pools. When water levels are high, it’s known for waterfalls, cliff jumping, and natural waterslides. Besides the signature hike up the valley, some fascinating side trails lead through woodlands rich in juniper, argan, and acacia.

The basics

There’s no charge to visit Paradise Valley and most travelers follow a standard route from the parking lot; the hike takes about 30 minutes when water levels are low. Since the valley is tricky to reach by public transit, you can opt to take a Paradise Valley tour from Agadir. Standard tours last half a day, sometimes with lunch included and a guide leading the way. Day trips might add in a visit to an argan oil cooperative or a stop in the surfing mecca of Taghazout or the mountain town of Imouzzer.

Things to know before you go

  • Paradise Valley Agadir is a great choice for photographers, hikers, and nature lovers.

  • Vendors sell food, water, and soft drinks at the start of the valley, and there are basic bathrooms.

  • Only consider cliff jumping when the pools are full. Ask whether it has rained before visiting.

  • The Paradise Valley hike follows uneven terrain and may involve wading through rivers, depending on rainfall. It’s unsuitable for travelers with mobility issues or families with babies and very young children.

How to get there

Paradise Valley is about a 20-mile (35-kilometer) drive northeast of Agadir, but that generally takes at least 1 hour. French and Arabic speakers can reach the valley by catching the bus to Aourir and then a shared taxi toward Imouzzer (ask to stop at Paradise Valley)—but getting back the same day may be a problem. Driving yourself, booking a driver, or joining a tour is easiest. Parking is available for a small fee.

When to get there

Paradise Valley is open daily at all hours. The waterfalls dry up and water levels in the pools are low during Morocco’s dry, hot summer—which is also when the valley is at its busiest. Fall, spring, and even winter are better times to visit, and the waterfalls are at their loveliest between January and March.

Getting out into nature around Agadir

Sun, surf, and sand may be Agadir’s main attractions, but the natural beauty doesn’t end there, or at Paradise Valley. Set around the mouth of the Souss River, Souss-Massa National Park is a must for bird watchers, with ibis, flamingos, storks, and kites in season, plus landscapes ranging from forests to sand dunes. The Atlas Mountains also offer many longer hikes.
