Perth Bell Tower
Barrack Square, Perth, Western Australia, 6000
One of the most distinctive sights in the Perth city skyline, the Bell Tower houses the historic St. Martin in the Fields bells—12 bells that rung for centuries in London until they were gifted to Western Australia in 1988. They now ring from the 271-foot (83-meter glass-and-copper tower that sits on the Swan River waterfront.
The basics
The Bell Tower is centrally located at the southern edge of Perth’s central business district (CBD), making it easy to visit during a day of sightseeing. The tower and adjacent Elizabeth Quay are popular gathering places for both locals and visitors. Book admission in advance to avoid waiting in the ticket line, or visit on a walking tour or a combo tour that also includes another city attraction, such as the Perth Mint.
With your entry you can head up to the tower’s three observation levels for views of downtown Perth and the Swan River. For a more enhanced experience, take a guided tour or opt for the interactive bell-chiming demonstration to learn the art of bell-ringing.
Things to know before you go
- The Bell Tower is accessible for travelers with physical disabilities.
- On Sundays, tours do not run but you can enter with a general entry ticket, available for purchase only in person.
- If you visit when the bells aren’t ringing, the audiovisual displays in the tower depict the history of the bells.
How to get there
The Bell Tower is located at the base of Barrack Street at the Barrack Street Jetty. It’s a short walk from the CBD, or you can take the free Blue CAT bus.
When to get there
The tower is open daily; the bells ring Monday, Thursday, and Sunday from 12–1pm. Tours take place Monday to Saturday until mid-afternoon.
Swan River Waterfront
The Bell Tower is one of many things to enjoy along this stretch of the Swan River, which flows through the city. The river provides miles of green space and paths for walking, biking, playing, and picnicking. The Elizabeth Quay development is home to eateries and public art. Hop on a ferry or river cruise to explore more of the river.
