Prague Zoo

3 U trojského zámku 120, Prague, Czech Republic, 171 00

Prague Zoo covers more than 140 acres (58 hectares) in the Prague Troja district on the banks of River Vltava. The zoo—with 150 exhibits and 13 pavilions—is home to more than 5,000 animals from 694 species (many endangered) including a Komodo dragon, polar bear, Galapagos tortoise, Malayan tiger, Humboldt's penguin, and hippopotamus.

The Basics

Prague Zoo, established in 1931, is organized by ecosystem and theme. Explore the African Savannah to watch endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, rare Grevy’s zebra, and eland antelope roam. Visit the Northern Forests to meet Siberian tigers, Amur leopards, and wolves. Stop by themed areas like the Gorilla Pavilion to see a silverback family, and swing by Elephant Valley to view eight Indian elephants.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Prague Zoo is a must-visit for animal lovers and those traveling with children.

  • Free Wi-Fi is available around the zoo.

  • There are several restaurants and refreshment stands throughout the zoo.

  • The zoo is wheelchair accessible, and a limited number of wheelchairs are available to borrow.

  • In summer, on weekends, and for public holidays, the zoo holds talks (in Czech) focused on a particular species.

How to Get There

From Staroměstská in the center of Prague, take tram No. 17 to the Trojská stop, and then take bus No. 112 to Zoologická zahrada stop, a few minutes’ walk from the entrance. If driving, park in the zoo’s paid lot.

When to Get There

Prague Zoo is open daily, year-round. Opening hours vary slightly throughout the year, but the zoo is generally open from morning through early evening, with the ticket office shutting down half an hour before closing. Avoid weekends and school holidays if you want to beat the crowds.

Children’s Zoo

In the southern part of the zoo’s grounds, the Children’s Zoo offers younger visitors the chance to get up close to domestic animals including horses, sheep, and rabbits. There are vending machines where, for a small fee, you can purchase feed with which to feed the animals—and petting is permitted.
