Presidential Office Building
No. 122, Section 1, Chongqing S. Road, Zhongzheng, Taipei, Taiwan, 100
Taipei’s Presidential Office Building has housed the offices of the Taiwan president since 1949. Built in 1919 for the ruling Japanese governor general, the building is renowned for its baroque architecture, red-brick facade, and central tower.
The Basics
The 5-story red-brick building has an 11-floor tower at its center that, at the time it was built, made it the tallest building in Taipei. As one of Taipei’s most-recognizable structures, the Presidential Office Building is a frequent stop on Taipei sightseeing tours, which range from bike trips and shore excursions to private, custom itineraries. Tours tend to combine the landmark with stops at Taipei highlights such as National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and Wenchang Temple.
