Quest Mall
33 Beck Bagan Row, Kolkata, West Bengal, 700017
The Quest Mall in Kolkata is a stylish place to shop, eat, or just escape from the hustle of the city outside. The 5-story mall isn’t just home to a wealth of luxury, upmarket clothes and lifestyle brands, but has a multiplex cinema and a food court, which serves a variety of Indian and international fare.
The basics
Opened in 2013, the Quest Mall adds a touch of glamour to Kolkata’s shopping scene. In a city that’s perhaps better known for its streetside vendors and quaint local retailers, the Quest Mall is the place to go for designer and luxury goods. There are also plenty of mid-budget stores and affordable eateries.
Most people visit independently, so they can take their time shopping and dining, but you can include the mall on a private, customizable guided tour of Kolkata.
Things to know before you go
- Stores in Quest Mall often run promotions and sales around major Indian holidays, such as Holi and Diwali, so look out for bargains around these times.
- It’s not all luxury fare at Quest—you can find a handy convenience store in the basement.
- The mall’s elevators often have long lines, so take the escalators if you can.
How to get there
Quest Mall is located on the edge of central Kolkata, on Syed Amir Ali Avenue in the Park Circus/Ballygunge area. There are tram and bus stops right outside, although these aren’t the most comfortable options for getting around Kolkata. Take a taxi from the central city, or from the nearest metro station Rabindra Sadan (which is still quite far away), for the easiest travel experience.
When to get there
Quest Mall is open from late morning until late in the evening, but individual stores operate slightly different hours. As there are many food outlets, you could come for lunch or dinner and then spend time browsing or shopping. It’s especially busy with locals in the evenings and on the weekends.
More rustic shopping experiences in Kolkata
If you’re looking for Indian souvenirs and handicrafts, Kolkata offers plenty of options, and at a significantly lower price-point than the Quest Mall. Head to the central-city New Market for textiles and tailoring, College Street for second-hand books, and the Central Cottage Industries Emporium and Kashmir Government Arts Emporium on Chowringhee Road, which both sell regional Indian crafts.
