POINT OF INTEREST

Reduit Beach

St Lucia

Reduit Beach is an inviting stretch of sugar-soft sand along Rodney Bay, and it’s one of the largest and most popular beaches in St. Lucia. Visitors can sunbathe, swim, take part in watersports, and enjoy the convenience and amenities of the nearby town. Plus, catch views of the verdant peaks of Pigeon Island National Park from across the bay.

The basics

Rent lounge chairs and snorkel equipment and sign up for windsurfing and waterskiing lessons in the protected bay. Or grab cocktails and a grilled fish lunch at one of the beachfront restaurants. Once the sun goes down, there’s no need to hurry home; Reduit Beach’s lively shore is equally popular at night. The west-facing beach boasts one of St. Lucia’s best sunset views, and the bars and nightclubs of Rodney Bay Village offer music and dancing until the early hours.

Things to know before you go

  • You can book spa treatments such as massages on the beach.
  • There are no public restrooms located on-site.
  • Some travelers report persistent but friendly beach vendors selling wares.

How to get there

Reduit Beach sits near the north end of the island, along the waterfront of Rodney Bay Village, which has a selection of shopping, restaurants, and hotels. The beach is 40 miles (65 kilometers) from Hewanorra International Airport, and 6 miles (10 kilometers) from the cruise terminal in the capital, Castries. If you’re arriving by cruise ship, book a shuttle service for your group or grab a taxi to head to the beach.

When to get there

Expect the largest crowds during the weekends, when locals and tourists alike frequent the beach. Also, it’s recommended to get to the beach early, especially if a cruise ship is in port, in order to secure a spot on the sand. December to April is considered peak tourist season in St. Lucia, with the rainy season running from June through November.

Pigeon Island National Park

Located across from Reduit Beach, Pigeon Island National Park boasts nature trails surrounded by a lush tropical forest, as well as 18th-century military ruins—including historic Fort Rodney—which you can climb to catch views of the neighboring islands. The park also includes Pigeon Island Beach where visitors can also swim and sunbathe.
