POINT OF INTEREST

SEA LIFE® Helsinki

Tivolitie 10, Helsinki, Finland, 00510

With marine life from regions as diverse as the tropics and the Baltic Sea, an ocean tunnel where sharks swim above you, and hands-on experiences including a lab and a discovery pool, SEA LIFE® Helsinki delivers all the educational fun you’d expect from a SEA LIFE aquarium. Feedings let you watch critters from archerfish to piranhas, sharks, and rays enjoying a meal.

The basics

SEA LIFE Helsinki is ticketed; children under 3 go free, and children aged 3–14 enjoy discounts. Tickets are cheaper when bought online, although savings vary according to the date. Most travelers visit independently; the exhibits are well-labeled in English and Finnish. But you can also book a SEA LIFE guided tour, available from 15 minutes to over an hour, or go backstage on a Behind the Scenes tour to learn how an aquarium operates and meet team members.

Things to know before you go

  • SEA LIFE Helsinki is an excellent choice for families.

  • Depending on your interest levels, you can spend anything from 30 minutes to half a day exploring this compact but well-designed aquarium.

  • Flash photography is not allowed anywhere in SEA LIFE Helsinki. You’ll need permission from the marketing department to use a tripod.

  • There’s no café in SEA LIFE Helsinki, but you can bring your own food and drink to be consumed in designated areas.

  • SEA LIFE Helsinki is accessible with wheelchairs and strollers, except for the Behind the Scenes tour.

  • Paying guests with a registered disability can bring one carer with them for free.

How to get there

SEA LIFE Helsinki sits a stone’s throw from the Linnanmäki amusement park in Kallio, about a 2-mile (3-kilometer) drive north of Helsinki Central Station. From the station, catch the #23 bus or the #3 or #9 tram to the Linnanmäki stop. It’s about a 5-minute walk.

When to get there

SEA LIFE Helsinki is generally open from 10am until late afternoon or early evening, except for major holidays such as Christmas. However, hours change because of special events, so check before you visit. Afternoons are often an excellent time to catch feedings, and weekends are the busiest.

Finland’s best animal experiences

Helsinki offers classic urban animal attractions, including the Helsinki Zoo and SEA LIFE Helsinki. But outside the city, there are a lot of bucket-list experiences. In Lapland, you can ride husky sleds or reindeer sleighs during the winter season or watch brown bears in spring and summer; Lake Saimaa in the southeast offers endangered ringed seals; and in Lentiira, close to the Russian border, it’s possible to spot wolves.
