The Basics

Spread across the museum’s three floors, devices on display include body harnesses, copulation tables, vibrators, and assorted stimulation devices. Several are accompanied by dummies to demonstrate exactly how they work, which is not always obvious. There are also some repressive artifacts on display, including chastity belts, an iron corset, and anti-masturbatory devices. The museum also features two pornographic films from 1925 (some of the world’s oldest) that were said to be produced at the demand of King Alphonso XIII.

Things to Know Before You Go

• Visitors must be 18 or over to enter (ID is required).
• As there is no elevator, the building is not wheelchair-accessible.
• You can watch 1920s pornographic films in a small cinema on the ground floor, though there is limited seating.

How to Get There

The museum is located in the center of Prague near the Old Town Square and several of the city’s biggest attractions including the Church of Our Lady before Tyn. For those traveling by the metro, it is just a 5-minute walk from the Mustek subway station, which is on lines A and B.

When to Get There

The Sex Machines Museum is open from late morning until late evening, seven days a week. It tends to be busiest in the evening so if you want to avoid crowds, visit in the morning. It doesn’t take long to see all of the museum’s exhibits so you don’t need to allocate much more than an hour for your visit.

Museum of Torture and Torture Instruments

Just a couple of minutes’ walk away you’ll find another unusual museum with a historic slant. The Museum of Torture and Torture Instruments exhibits more than 60 torture devices from all over Europe, from iron maidens to head crushers, and provides information about how torture was wielded against vulnerable members of medieval European society.
