Housed in a futuristic glass structure in Pudong, the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum (SSTM) comprises four theaters and more than a dozen exhibition halls focusing on robotics, space travel, natural history, and more. With hands-on and immersive displays, this museum offers a fun and educational day out for the whole family.
The Basics
This museum covers about 732,000 square feet (68,000 square meters) on five floors. Visitors can easily spend a full day here; a guided tour can help maximize your time. Popular exhibitions include the World of Robotics, where robots solve Rubik’s cubes and compete with visitors at chess and archery; and Light of Wisdom Hall, featuring hands-on scientific experiments. Four theaters—two IMAX, one 4D, and one planetarium-style—show films all day.

How to Get There
The museum is located near Century Park in Pudong. If you’re traveling by metro, take line 2 to the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum Station (Exit 7). By bus, take Shengchong bus No. 2 or 4 and get off at the Shanghai Science & Technology Museum Station, or take bus 184, 640, 983, or 987 and get off at Shiji Dadao Dingxianglu.
When to Get There
The museum is open daily, except for Mondays (unless it’s a public holiday). The museum is a popular destination for families and school trips; visit during the week in the late afternoon, after school groups have left.
