Sight and Sound Theatre

1001 Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, Branson, Missouri

Sight and Sound Theatre is perhaps the grandest way to take in the Bible’s message. With fabulous costumes, million-dollar sets, and endless onstage action, it presents all the stories you know with a Hollywood flair. From the traditional Christmas show to the lesser-known tale of Queen Esther, Sight and Sound Theatre specializes, as its name says, in delighting your senses.

Originally based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the Sight and Sound Theatre added a second location in the Branson area: a 2,000-seat venue with a 300-foot wraparound stage. Beyond the impressive facility, it provides a truly immersive experience, from curtain up to final applause.

Devoted to the Christian faith, the theater delivers a classic holiday favorite each year, along with a fresh production, with the season beginning in March and running through December. Expect grand costumes, incredible sets and lighting, animatronics, pyrotechnics, and more—sometimes, there are even live horses in the aisles.

  • The box office is open daily, with extended hours during showtimes.

  • To guarantee your seats, purchase tickets in advance.

  • Shows typically run about 2.5 hours with one 15-minute intermission.

At 1001 Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, the Sight and Sound Theatre is just a couple minutes off Branson’s main drag, Highway 248. Driving there is your best bet, and while there is parking on-site, you’ll definitely want to come early to avoid circling for an open spot. Taxi and rideshare services are also an option.

During the season, shows run Tuesday–Saturday, with anywhere from one to three shows a day. You’ll want adequate time to find parking, visit restrooms and the concession stand (you can bring snacks inside the theater), and find your seats—in other words, come about 30 minutes prior to showtime to keep things comfortable.

Pigs, goats, sheep, llamas, camels, cattle, donkeys, horses, dogs, cats, skunks, macaws, rabbits, and alpacas are on the list of the theater’s trained animals—some of whom you just might see onstage. Professional animal caretakers and trainers work with each animal, and the theater owns a large animal-care facility to keep its actors in tip-top shape.
