Skyride to Paradise Point

The basics

Once you reach the top, you can relax at the site's restaurant, which serves up terrific terrace views, as well as the island’s signature Bushwacker, a particularly potent, coffee-flavored rum cocktail. Sometimes there's live music too, and on a clear day, you may even be able to spot the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, in addition to the views of St. Thomas.

• Discounted tram prices are offered on some evenings.

• Some cruise passengers can save a couple bucks by booking an excursion directly through the ship.

How to get there

The Paradise Point Tramway runs from Havensight Mall, near downtown Charlotte Amalie. The ride takes around 7 minutes, rising 700 feet (210 meters) to the top of Flag Hill. It’s about a 20-minute windy ride by car from Magens Bay, and it’s easy to find a taxi at the busiest points around the island, including Charlotte Amalie.

When to get there

The tramway hours vary, depending on the day and whether a cruise ship is in port. On ship days, it typically opens at 9am. Plan a visit at sunset to see the views of the twinkling lights of Charlotte Amalie. Also, keep in mind that on cloudy and rainy days, there may be obstructed views.

Coral World Ocean Park

Almost directly across St. Thomas from the tram, Coral World is a family-friendly attraction with displays that closely mimic the habitats of the area’s marine life. There’s a touch pool with hermit crabs, starfish, and sea cucumbers; a 50,000-gallon (190-cubic-meter) tank that’s home to moray eels, tarpon, and sharks; and other aquatic activities.
