Smorgasburg Williamsburg

Brooklyn, New York City

One of Brooklyn’s most popular foodie destinations, Smorgasburg Williamsburg is a street-food market, which runs seasonally outdoors. Held on Saturdays and located in Marsha P. Johnson State Park overlooking the East River, the market is a New York summer staple. With more than 70 food vendors serving dozens of global cuisines, it offers a uniquely eclectic dining experience.

The basics

The largest weekly, open-air food market in the country, Smorgasburg—which operates NYC locations in the hip Williamsburg location, the Oculus at World Trade Center, and Breeze Hill in Prospect Park—is an essential stop for food lovers.

To make the most of Smorgasburg Williamsburg, arrive late Saturday morning, and come prepared with an appetite: With many dozens of vendors selling everything from lobster rolls and jerk chicken to okonomiyaki and birria tacos, there’s a whole world of culinary discovery awaiting. It’s worth bringing a group of friends with you so you can share and sample a wide range of bites. Smorgasburg can also be explored as part of a Brooklyn walking tour.

Things to know before you go

  • Although it’s located on a flat, level lot, Smorgasburg’s crowds may make it challenging for wheelchair users to navigate.
  • Smorgasburg is an open-air attraction; come prepared for the weather, and bring sun protection with you.
  • Most vendors take credit cards, so don’t worry about bringing cash.
  • Pets are not permitted in Smorgasburg.

How to get there

Smorgasburg Williamsburg is located in Marsha P. Johnson State Park at 90 Kent Avenue in Brooklyn. To get there via public transportation, take the L train to Bedford Avenue, which is roughly five blocks away. Taxis and rideshare services also make getting there easy.

When to get there

Smorgasburg Williamsburg is open seasonally, generally from the first weekend of April through to the last weekend of October. The Williamsburg market is hosted on Saturdays only, from late morning until early evening. Arrive early or late to beat the peak lunchtime crowds.

Brooklyn Flea

Another popular Brooklyn Market—operated by the same team as Smorgasburg—Brooklyn Flea is perfect for visitors hunting for vintage clothing, accessories, and other bargains. It’s also joined by Chelsea Flea in Manhattan and the new BQ Flea, which is located under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
