Just outside of Stellenbosch, Spier Wine Farm is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, dating back to 1692. Offering a wide range of wines and wine-tasting experiences, Spier is also home to several restaurants, shops, a hotel, and an extensive contemporary art collection. There are numerous ways to experience the estate.

Spier Wine Farms offers a range of tasting experiences, including regular tastings, winemaker selection tastings, and chocolate and wine tastings. Permits are required to ride the Spier mountain bike trail. A day permit is available from the Spier Farm Café.
How to get there
Spier Wine Farm is just outside Stellenbosch. It’s around 26 miles (42 kilometers) east of Cape Town, so it's an easy day trip. Take the N2 to the R310 or the N1 to the R304 to R310. There’s plenty of parking on-site. Spier Farms is also included in many wine-tasting tours of the region from Cape Town.
When to get there
Spier Wine Farms is open daily. Wine tastings are available from 9am to 4pm Sunday through Wednesday and 9am to 5pm Thursday through Saturday. Advanced bookings are strongly recommended, especially on weekends. The estate offers enough activities to spend an entire day. Special events, such as winemaker dinners, are held from time to time.

Spier Wine Farm produces a wide variety of wines, including award-winning wines. Their white cultivars consist of chardonnay, chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc, and viognier while their red cultivars include cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, pinotage, and syrah. Different ranges in their line include Frans K. Smit blends, 21 Gables single varietals, 235 Creative Block blends, True to Terroir, Signature Collection, and more.
