St. George’s Chapel
Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 1NJ
Situated within Windsor Castle, this 15th-century church is a stunning example of the Perpendicular Gothic style, with its slender pillars, and pinnacles all soaring skyward. Many British royals—including monarchs such as Henry VIII and Charles I—are buried here and it’s also where Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in 2018.
The basics
Entrance to St. George’s Chapel is included with general admission to Windsor Castle, along with other parts of the fortress such as the State Apartments and the Semi-State Rooms, George IV’s private apartments. Many visitors come to Windsor Castle as part of day tours from London, which typically incorporate stops at Stonehenge, Bath, or Oxford along the way. Other royal-themed tours combine a visit to Windsor Castle with a trip to London’s Buckingham Palace.

Windsor Castle
While you’re in Windsor Castle, look up at the Round Tower. If the union jack—the UK’s National flag—is flying, it means the queen is not currently present. If the Royal Standard flag—a flag bearing four heraldic symbols—is flying, it means she is at Windsor Castle.
