Suho Memorial Paper Museum

No. 68, Section 2, Chang’an E. Road, Zhongshan, Taipei, Taiwan, 10491

One of Taipei’s unique small museums, the Suho Memorial Paper Museum was founded to commemorate the millennia-old Chinese tradition of papermaking. Located in a four-story building, the museum showcases historical artifacts and also hosts a working paper mill and hands-on papermaking workshops.

The basics

Established by Taiwanese papermaker Chen Su-ho in 1995, the Suho Memorial Paper Museum is the only institution of its kind in Taipei. A popular destination for hobbyists and artists as well as history buffs, the museum’s exhibits explore traditional papermaking techniques, sculptures and installations, and themed temporary exhibitions. In addition to the working paper mill, the museum’s rooftop hosts family-friendly papermaking workshops several times a day.

Given its accessible size and central location, the Suho Memorial Paper Museum is simple to visit as part of an independent day out around town.

Things to know before you go

  • Pick up souvenirs and art-making materials at the museum’s first-floor gift shop.
  • Choose between basic admission and tickets that also include a papermaking workshop.
  • To discover a humorous and unusual exhibition, head to the bathroom, where the precursors to modern toilet paper are on display.

How to get there

The museum is located in the central Zhongshan District and is easy to reach by public transportation. Take the Yellow and Green MRT lines to Songjiang Nanjing Station, the Yellow and Blue MRT lines to Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, or use local buses. The museum can also be reached on foot, by bike, or by taxi.

When to get there

The Suho Memorial Paper Museum is open every day except Sunday, from around 9am–5:30pm, while papermaking workshops are held twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon. Owing to the range of changing temporary exhibitions, it’s worth planning repeat visits.
