The home turf of the Brisbane Broncos Rugby League, the Queensland Reds Rugby Union, and the Brisbane Roar Soccer Club, Suncorp Stadium (Lang Park is one of Queensland’s largest and most important sports stadiums. With a capacity of more than 50,000; it hosts national and international sporting events, as well as music concerts.
The basics
Sports fans can enjoy the electric atmosphere by watching a rugby or AFL (Australian Football League) match at the stadium, while music lovers can attend some of Queensland’s biggest pop and rock concerts—U2, Coldplay, and Taylor Swift have all played the stadium. Things to know before you go
- The stadium is open-air, so dress according to the weather and bring a rain poncho or sunscreen and a hat.
- The stadium has a gift shop, along with bars and food kiosks,that are only open on match days. Nearby Caxton Street is the most popular spot for pre- or post-match drinks and dining, with a wide selection of bars and restaurants.
- The stadium is fully wheelchair-accessible.
How to get there
Suncorp Stadium is located in the Milton district, just west of downtown. The easiest way to reach the stadium is by public transport, especially on match days, when the surrounding streets are closed to traffic. Event tickets include free bus or rail travel—hop on a bus from downtown to Suncorp Stadium bus station, or ride the train to Milton Train Station or Roma Street Train Station, all within a 5-minute walk of the stadium.
When to get there
Tours only take place on Thursday mornings, but may not run during in low season, so it’s best to check in advance. Most matches are held on Friday and Saturday afternoons, while music concerts tend to take place on weekdays.
Exploring Brisbane’s Milton District
The riverfront suburb of Milton has plenty to keep you busy if you want to combine a matchday with some sightseeing or shopping. The Park Road Precinct is the main area for drinking and dining, and features a replica of the Eiffel Tower. It’s lined with European restaurants, cozy cafés, and local designer boutiques. Stroll down to the riverside to join the Brisbane RiverWalk, which runs all the way into the city, following the Brisbane River. Other attractions include the 19th-century Regatta Hotel, one of the city’s most famous pubs, and the XXXX Ale House And Brewery, where you can take a brewery tour and tasting of one of Australia’s most famous beer brands.
