The basics

Suntory Hall’s vineyard design is believed to contribute to its superior acoustics; much like terraces of vines, which are oriented in the direction of the sun, terraced rows of seating surround the stage to bring the audience closer to the musicians. The venue hosts around 550 concerts a year, with world-renowned musicians and orchestras—including the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra; NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo; and the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra—performing here.

Things to know before you go

• The venue is continuously working to remove barriers and make its events as accessible as possible. There’s a ramp and spaces for wheelchairs in the main hall.

• Food and drinks are prohibited in the auditorium. However, there’s a bar and refreshment lounge with food and drinks available for purchase before the concert and during the interval.

• There is a cloakroom available at the venue.

• Although there isn’t a dress code, it’s recommended that you avoid wearing items that may make noise during the performance.

• If supervised by an adult, Children 6 years and over are welcome. There are special events available for kids under 6.

How to get there

The most convenient way to travel to Suntory Hall is to take the Tokyo Metro to either Roppongi-itchōme Station (via the Namboku Line) or Tameike-sannō Station (via the Ginza Line), which are both around a 10-minute walk away. If traveling by bus, the nearest bus stop is Akasaka Ark Hills, which is roughly a 2-minute walk away.

When to get there

Suntory Hall holds about 550 concerts a year and is visited by 600,000 customers annually. Shows take place at different times of the day, from morning to evening, and there are special programs available for children. It’s advisable to check the concert schedule ahead of time to guarantee seats for your preferred performance.

There’s plenty to do nearby after watching a concert at Suntory Hall. Explore the many amenities of the Ark Hills complex, which features beautiful gardens and a variety of restaurants, including traditional Japanese eateries and a pizza bar by Wolfgang Puck. For a stroll in the great outdoors, Hinokicho Park is approximately 13 minutes away on foot.
