Surin Beach
Choeng Thale, Phuket, Thailand, 83110
Phuket is a huge island, loaded with beaches that all have their own feel. Surin is perfect for those who want a more relaxed vibe, but who still want the comforts of being able to rent beach chairs and try some local goodies from food vendors. Stay for sunset, if you like a bit of a party atmosphere.
The basics
Either spend the entire day at Surin, or stop here as part of a beach-hopping jaunt; you can usually find a corner to yourself, except during the more crowded high season. There are vendors offering beach-chair rentals and selling fresh fruit and dishes like fried rice and pad thai. Go for a dip, ride some waves, have a beachside Thai massage, or snooze in the sun along this white sand stretch of beach.
Things to know before you go
Bring reef-safe sunscreen, which is the only kind allowed in many areas of Thailand.
Carry some extra baht with you, since you’ll need it if you want to buy food or drinks, or rent chairs or sunbeds.
Practice some simple Thai phrases, and you’ll be sure to get a bit of respect from the vendors.
How to get there
Phuket is easy to get around, either by renting a moped, using a rideshare app, or hailing a taxi. Mopeds are fun, since they give you the freedom to visit Surin Beach, but then also stop at other beaches on the island for comparison. Be sure to check the distance, though, as it can take up to 2 hours to drive across the entire island.
When to get there
High season is from November to February, when the skies are clearest and the sun shines bright. Later in the year, the monsoon comes, and there’s rain most days. However, rates go way down in off-peak seasons, the weather is still warm, and you will see sunshine. Consider coming at an off-peak time if you want a cheaper vacation and don’t mind packing some light rain gear.
Laem Singh Viewpoint
Not far from Surin Beach is Laem Singh Viewpoint, where you can take in a beautiful view south to Laem Singh Beach; with a covered place to sit, it offers a nice break from moped-ing around the island. The sunset is especially lovely from here, so consider coming in the evening, but you might not have the spot all to yourself.
