Established in 1896 during the Japanese colonial period, Taipei Botanical Garden display more than 2,000 species of plants throughout 17 garden districts on 20 acres (8.2 hectares). Paths take visitors past nine ponds and through two buildings—the Herbarium and Museum of Imperial Envoy Lodging—that are registered historic sites.
The Basics
The Botanical Garden is laid out in 17 themed zones. Learn about plants used in daily life in the Economic Crops Garden, and see hundreds of plant varieties mentioned in ancient Chinese literature in the Chinese Classical Literature Botanical Garden. Things to Know Before You Go
Taipei Botanical Garden is great for families, couples, and outdoors enthusiasts.
Outside food and drink is not allowed within the Botanical Garden.
Wear long pants and a shirt with sleeves, and remember to bring insect repellent; mosquitoes are common in the gardens.
The gardens are wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs are available for rent.
How to Get There
The easiest way to get to the garden is to take the metro to Xiaonanmen Station and then follow signs for Exit 3. Public buses also stop nearby at the Botanical Garden, Sanyuan St., and Jianguo High School stops. Parking near the garden is limited.
When to Get There
The Botanical Garden is open daily year-round, and while springtime is peak flower season, there’s always something in bloom.
Birdwatching at the Botanical Garden
