POINT OF INTEREST

Terme Stufe di Nerone

Via Stufe di Nerone 45, Bacoli, Campania, 80070

Escape the bustle of Naples with a visit to Terme Stufe di Nerone (The Baths of Nero Stoves). These hot springs are located just outside the city in the volcanic area of the Phlegraean Fields, which offer waters as hot as 165°F (74°C) and have been a popular natural thermal spa since ancient Roman times.

The Basics

The Terme Stufe di Nerone is a modern complex modelled after ancient Roman spas, with indoor and outdoor natural thermal pools, saunas, and ponds fed by the mineral-rich waters that bubble up from the area’s underground hot springs. The complex also includes waterfalls and massage jets, therapeutic muds, and sun beds in the lush gardens and grounds.

Visit with a day spa entry ticket that includes access to the pools, facilities, and grounds; massages and other spa treatments can be booked for an extra fee.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Bring your own swimsuit and slippers. Bathrobes and towels can be rented at the spa.

  • The entrance fee includes use of changing rooms, storage lockers, and showers.

  • Children are welcome to use the thermal baths, and a kids’ club offers activities in the summer months.

  • The spa is accessible to wheelchair users.

  • A small restaurant inside the thermal park serves light meals and snacks.

How to Get There

You can reach the thermal baths from Naples by taking the Cumana train from the Napoli Montesanto station in the historic center to the Lucrino stop and walking about 20 minutes. Otherwise, by car take the Tangenziale di Napoli and exit at Pozzuoli-Arco Felice, passing under the tunnel to the right toward Bacoli.

When to Get There

The spa is open almost daily year round, closing on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Easter. The baths are most crowded during weekends in summer, so choose a weekday for a more relaxing soak.

What’s in the Terme Stufe di Nerone Waters?

The spring waters at Terme Stufe di Nerone have been long prized for their sodium chloride, iodine, and bromide content, believed to be therapeutic for a number of maladies, including arthritis and rheumatism, respiratory ailments, and skin conditions.
